Can you believe this shit?

I drive 1,300 miles, only stopping for fuel and toilets, TWICE, and this is how it repays me.

Kinja'd!!!

I lost a brake light bulb. When it was -10F. The car even had the nerve to tell me about it. I haven’t been this mad since the last time I hooked it up to a scanner and it had no codes.

Kinja'd!!!

I guess the internet was right. Never trust an R.

That’s terrible. You may as well just give it to me so you don’t have to deal with the headache anymore

Man, that is frustrating. You really should trade that in for a Corolla with a CVT.

But the angle gear. And the suspension.

You should sell it to me to ease your mind. That thing is fantastic. I already have a Volvo with blue gauges so it will feel right at home.

I had the exact thing on my Superb Mk2.

Three years of ownership, one brake light bulb blown, each side has four bulbs in each cluster, so even though the car said a bulb had blown, I couldn’t see it.

After three years of ownership my 15 year old bmw finally decided it had had enough of being perfectly reliable because it knows it’s not supposed to be... when it was below zero every day for 10 days straight the 7 year old battery decided it wasn’t up to the task of turning over the freezing engine. Based on the age of the car it was probably its second battery ever. What a POS, I should probably sell it for scrap.

On this note, I’m soooooo glad I changed my battery. I thought it would be fine and I could nurse it through another year... I mean, it should be fine in warm weather and it’s not like our winters are really that cold. Right?

Well, it was starting to struggle at -7C... you do the math

LOL. Sadly, this is actually how a lot of people think. I’ve had a faulty battery for a few months (bad cell — slow to start) and a replacement was $225, so I was putting it off. But my wife kept commenting on how I needed to get a new car, it was falling apart, etc.

It’s a subtle but powerful mindset.

Changed my battery Monday, about a year after I probably should have done it. Now, even at -17, the car is gleeful about starting. I think it’s showing off.

I like those. If the 9-5 packs it in, that’s on my list.

Oooohhh nooooo. I car with suspension ahead of it’s time is costly to replace but will still last as long as any other strut.

I do need to pull the angle gear though. It started weeping after I replaced the passenger axle. I think I nicked a seal.

I was hesitating to just replace it without being sure what the problem was; the date stickers weren’t marked on the top. But when I pulled it out, I saw an AUG 2010 sticker on the side and was quite pleased. It probably would have lasted another year or more if it weren’t for the winter temps.

This is a case where a heated garage would have hidden the problem, until I got stuck somewhere other than home. So there’s some silver lining to having my cars outside all the time?

Pretty sure mine was a 2010 battery too. Though I couldn’t find any date markings on it.

What a handsome wagon.

I have no idea how to be sure but I think this bulb was 14 years old. It’s stamped as coming from Hungary.

Thanks, she was a great car.

This was a month or so after we let her go.

That’s a pretty good life for a bulb.

I’m sorry. Look at this seat. I’m forced to sit comfortably all the time. Even 20 hours straight with no back pain. What kinda sick car would do that to you?

I went so far as to do this in my 1987 El Camino. From a 1998 V70.

Nice! Volvo seats seem perfect for swaps because they don’t look like a particular brand or time period.

Kinja'd!!! Sovande > cmill189 - sans Volvo

Kinja'd!!!1

Very true. It took a while to get them in as the seats were wider than the brackets I had to retrofit, but it was definitely worth it. I makes it feel like a completely different car. The old aftermarket buckets were much smaller and at 6'4, I always felt like I was about to fall out of them. They still need to be cleaned, a little touch dye on the bolster, condition the leather and clean up the wiring and they should be good to go.
